Sustainable Roadmap

At 2BAYS Curaçao, our mission is to become a driving force behind the industrial energy transition and contribute to Curaçao’s sustainable economic prosperity. We additionally seek to develop modern sustainable value chains in the Industrial Port of Curaçao. This page provides insight into how these ambitions will be achieved.

Sustainable prosperity for Curaçao

The global shift towards an energy transition and a circular economy presents significant opportunities for our region. By collaborating we can help build a prosperous society characterized by long-term economic growth, social well-being, and environmental stewardship. A sustainable Industrial Port of Curaçao will underpin the sustainable future of our region, showcasing our island as a model of sustainable prosperity, for both present and future generations.

Steps towards realizing our ambition

Transitions do not occur overnight; they demand time and investment. Therefore, we plan to leverage the opportunities presented by the energy transition and circular economy. Collaboration is at the heart of our strategy. Therefore, we collaborate with key players in the sustainable industry, our partners, and clients, to develop new durable economic activities over the long term. Moreover, we are committed to collaborate with our partners, to educate and inspire the society to embrace a sustainable future. This is how we are driving the industrial energy transition.

Environmental commitment

Transitioning to a sustainable Port of Curaçao means adhering to associated environmental standards. Thus, we comply with the regulations of the Curaçao Ministry of Nature and Health, including those of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), which sets global standards for the safety, security, and environmental performance of international shipping. We also abide by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), which establishes regulations to combat marine pollution, including oil, noxious liquid substances, harmful substances in packaged form, sewage, garbage, and air emissions.

Our plans for site redevelopment include remediation to renovate areas affected by heavy industrial activity. Currently several soil remediation projects are being planned and implemented, laying the groundwork for future infrastructural developments.
