On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 2BAYS Curaçao and Curaçao Refinery Utilities (CRU) officially reopened Post 5, one of the main entrances providing access to the Isla site. After being inactive for approximately five years, Post 5 has reopened to accommodate the growing activities in the Schottegat Industrial Area and to enhance accessibility for personnel and contractors. Following the long-term lease agreements signed with both Global Oil and Oryx, planning and execution have begun on various projects, including repairs to units, scaffolding, tanks, and pipelines. Gradually but steadily, these steps are ensuring the restart of different plants. Prime Minister of Curaçao, Mr. Gilmar Pik Pisas, performed the symbolic reopening act, becoming the first person to enter the site through the newly reopened entrance, followed by various contractors ready to begin their work. This event marks a significant milestone in the ongoing development of operations in the Schottegat Industrial Area.

During his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized that while the refinery ceased operations more than five years ago, its restart must be done safely and securely. Nevertheless, significant work is already underway. "We have all noticed that Global Oil, on behalf of our local contractors, published a notice in all newspapers seeking 320 skilled workers for the major revision projects currently in progress or set to begin soon. I am very pleased with the large-scale activities taking place at the refinery and with the investments made by Global Oil and Oryx. They are injecting millions into our economy while also creating job opportunities for the people of Curaçao," stated Minister Pisas.

Post 5 will serve as an additional centralized access route, coordinating entry and ensuring efficient traffic flow for workers and contractors involved in various projects. Its reopening highlights the growing need for improved infrastructure to support both current and future activities at the site. For the time being, Post 5 will be open only during peak hours, from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM, 11:45 AM to 1:30 PM, and 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM.

“We are pleased to reopen Post 5, as it will facilitate access for both the 1,200 workers currently on-site and those who will be joining soon,” said Patrick Newton, Director of 2BAYS Curaçao.
