On Thursday evening, January 23, 2BAYS organized an informational session in collaboration with representatives from Royal HaskoningDHV and the Ministry of Health, Environment, and Nature (GMN). During the session, 2BAYS CEO Patrick Newton and Senior Consultant Rick Huizinga of Royal HaskoningDHV delivered a comprehensive presentation to a group of approximately 50 attendees. They informed the public about 2BAYS' future plans and the submitted permit applications for operating the facilities in Emmastad and Bullen Bay.

2BAYS explained their intention to continue current activities and to begin the first phase—a relatively small part—of the refinery focused on asphalt production. Additionally, a request has been made for storage activities in Bullen Bay and blending operations in Emmastad. Through these activities, 2BAYS contributes to Curaçao's development. GMN also provided a presentation outlining the applicable conditions and procedures for granting the permits.

In the last quarter of 2024, 2BAYS submitted permit applications for the operation of facilities in Emmastad and Bullen Bay. These permits are a crucial component of 2BAYS' future plans. The environmental impacts have been thoroughly assessed. Due to 2BAYS' ambitions, the new environmental regulations, and the limited scope of activities, the environmental impact on the surrounding area is minimal. The applications are accompanied by environmental measures based on management standards that align with European and Dutch environmental legislation.

The draft permits are expected to be published and made available for consultation in March/April. At that time, there will be an opportunity to submit comments or observations.

With this step, 2BAYS moves toward realizing its new plans to stimulate economic activities and contribute to a sustainable future for Curaçao. 2BAYS remains available for questions and feedback and looks back on a positive meeting, with confidence in the progress ahead.
