2BAYS Curaçao and Energis N.V. have signed a collaboration agreement to expand Energis’ biofuels activities through the Schottegat Industrial Area. This unique partnership involves investments from both parties and marks a significant step in developing Curaçao as a leading biofuels cluster in the Caribbean. Energis' new activities are expected to launch in the second half of this year.
Energis, as part of the Swiss Clover Energy Group, an internationally operating player in the sustainable energy sector, converts 40,000 tons of biomass into sustainable fuels at its production facility at Dokweg. This makes Energis the first and only biofuel producer in the region. Through this collaboration, Energis can further increase biofuel production, positioning Curaçao as an innovative player in the global transition to sustainable energy.
2BAYS strongly believes in this project, as it aligns with the new strategy introduced in October 2024, focusing on more diversified and sustainable economic activities in the Schottegat and Bullen Bay Industrial Area. To support this initiative, 2BAYS is investing in upgrading one of its jetties, which Energis and other clients will use for new activities.
In turn, Energis is investing in the construction of a new pipeline connecting 2BAYS’ jetty to its biofuels production facility on Dokweg, as well as in the development of new storage tanks for the handling and transfer of additional volumes of bio-based raw materials and fuels. These investments are a crucial step in further developing circular activities on the island and strengthening Curaçao's position as a hub for sustainable energy.
Patrick Newton, Acting CEO of 2BAYS, emphasizes the strategic importance of this collaboration:
"This partnership perfectly aligns with our strategy to develop circular activities contributing to the transition of energy and raw materials. We are proud to work alongside Energis to create a more sustainable future for Curaçao and the region."
James Robbins, Managing Director of Clover Energy Group, adds:
"With this collaboration, we are taking a significant step in our mission to provide innovative and sustainable energy solutions. Curaçao is the leading biofuels cluster in the Caribbean, and we are excited to contribute to and further strengthen this position."
